Sutjeska Survive – Maglic, Volujak and Jungle Perucica

After a homemade breakfast and coffee by the lake, we embark on the ascent to Maglić. The ascent takes between 3 and 4 hours, depending on the pace. Like every other day, today also includes packed lunches consisting of water, fruit, chocolate, and sandwiches. After conquering the highest peak in Bosnia and Herzegovina, we continue our journey to our final destination for the day – the plateau Prijevor, located just below Maglić. Here, a warm dinner awaits us, and we spend the night in katuns (stone mountain houses) below Maglić. We arrive just in time to witness the magnificent sunset, which is the trademark of the Sutjeska National Park and truly one of the rare natural phenomena where the sky changes from light blue to bright orange in a matter of seconds. After dinner, we continue our gathering around the fire, make plans for tomorrow – an adventure in the heart of Europe’s largest primeval forest, Perućica, and a visit to its jewel, the Skakavac Waterfall.

Following the routine – coffee, breakfast preparation, and the start of today’s adventure. Perućica Primeval Forest is a well-preserved natural reserve, and it wouldn’t be an exaggeration to call it the cleanest part of this region of Europe. Absolute protection and controlled access to the forest have resulted in Perućica being proudly referred to as the cleanest corner of Europe. Can you imagine yourself in the middle of the jungle in Bosnia and Herzegovina? At the very beginning, towering trees, several times older than us, reaching heights of over 50 meters, greet us. We fully experience the power of nature and surrender to all its charms. We guarantee that you have never walked such forest paths. The terrain is often wet and muddy, so proper equipment is necessary for this adventure. Similar to the previous excursion, we provide packed lunches, and we expect you to have the following: mountaineering boots, mountaineering pants, two spare shirts for changing, a battery-powered lamp, mosquito spray (recommendation: Autan spray), a backpack, a cap or scarf, a raincoat, an ID card, and, depending on the season, a thicker or thinner jacket. As the entire territory of the Perućica forest is strictly protected, we emphasize that our excursions into the forest are guided by professionals from the Sutjeska National Park, as independent visits to the forest are strictly prohibited. Covering nearly 1300 hectares, Perućica occupies a significant part of the Sutjeska National Park, and a large portion of the forest remains unexplored. Some areas are so inaccessible that it’s likely human footsteps will never reach those places. Walking through the forest, there’s not much talk or noise. This is the only way we can provide our senses with a complete experience. What’s more beautiful – the path we walk, the air we breathe, or the sounds we hear? Everything is perfect. Perućica Primeval Forest is undoubtedly home to dozens of different bird species, including eagles, hawks, thrushes, and the most notable: the golden eagle. Regarding the forest itself, it hosts the highest quality and best-preserved specimens of beech, black and white pine, ash, and maple. Some trees are over 300 years old and reach heights of over 60 meters – a phenomenon unique to Europe. The forest is also home to large game such as wolves, bears, wild boars, chamois, and roe deer. Even Europe’s most dangerous snake, the Vipera (adder), has found refuge in Perućica. However, safety is not a concern because our guides and the guides of the Sutjeska National Park ensure a safe passage through Perućica for all its visitors. Safety is our top priority, and that’s why we choose only proven and licensed guides who have plenty of experience and countless hours spent in Perućica. A lot remains unspoken because there’s simply no way to convey most of what you’ll experience in Perućica. Some things you have to explore on your own and discover the power of nature in Perućica. Regarding the Skakavac Waterfall, the forest’s trademark, we won’t write much because this giant among waterfalls must be experienced. It’s enough to say that it is the largest waterfall in Bosnia and Herzegovina, and approaching it closer than 15 meters is not possible due to the waterfall’s strength. After completing the adventure through the forest, we return to civilization, where transportation awaits us to take us back to our center in Tjentište. There, we have dinner, music, the presentation of certificates and Sutjeska Survive T-shirts, gathering around the fire, and overnight stay.

• If any of the participants have health issues, please inform us in a timely manner.
• For vegetarian, vegan, and special dietary requests, please notify us at least 48 hours before arrival, and we will gladly provide you with meals based on your preferences throughout your stay.
• Due to weather conditions, we reserve the right to change the order of excursion organization on a daily basis.
• All our arrangements can be combined, and activities can be changed at least 48 hours before arrival.
